Celebrating Sarawak Creativity on the Global Stage
At the ASEAN Digital Content Summit 2025 held in Johor Bahru, Motion Foundry — a leading Sarawak animation studio based in Kuching — brought home major recognition for its latest animated short, Kumang and the Ungrateful Python.
The film, inspired by Sarawak’s indigenous folklore, won the Best Story Award at the 27th DigiCon6 Asia Malaysia Circuit Contest, was an Official Selection at the Malaysia Animation Film Festival (MAFF) 2025, and earned a Gold Nominee recognition representing Malaysia on the regional stage.

Kumang and the Ungrateful Python — A Folklore Reimagined
Motion Foundry’s storytelling breathes new life into Bornean legends through modern animation techniques. This short film retells the ancient tale of Kumang, weaving together themes of wisdom, kindness, and consequence — reimagined for a new generation through digital art and cinematic design.
As one of the most active Kuching animation studios, Motion Foundry continues to show how culturally rooted narratives can connect with international audiences when crafted with heart and vision. Watch Trailer here: https://youtu.be/idCRsRSOAl4?si=8oglDpQXntBJkY8c
